Entertainment Discourse

ASSIGNMENT 3: ‘ENTERTAINMENT DISCOURSE
‘Make a website documenting the details of a
movie or TV narrative some part of which you still remember from your childhood years (K-12 years).’
When I think back to my childhood years, I can remember two movies... Fievel Goes West, and the Land Before Time. I can remember watching them in 3 different houses that I lived in, every day, sometimes over and over again, until I could say every word with them. This exercise has brought back the memory of another, The Rescuers Down Under.  I feel like I have betrayed my childhood self, in that I cant remember anything about these movies, and probably can't talk along with them anymore. I also think its kind of ironic, 2 of those 3 movies star a mouse. My first pet was a snake...the mouses arch enemy.

EXERCISE 13: FETISHSCREEN
‘Itemize and represent on your homepage the object or actions that could be classified as your ‘fetishes.’
fet·ish
ˈfetiSH/
noun
  1. an inanimate object worshiped for its supposed magical powers or because it is considered to be inhabited by a spirit.

I think the most obvious fetish in this day and age is the cell phone, or at least the smartphone. Smartphone users definitely worship their devices, especially the younger ones. The older ones certainly think it has magical powers, though I'm not sure if because its inhabited by a spirit. We all carry around these devices every day, waiting for it to make a weird feeling in our pocket, or embarrass us in a meeting or during class. Despite the fact that we still call them phones, we don't use them to call people, at least not as often as you'd think, seeing as we carry them around all day long. We bring chargers with us to plug it in when it gets unhappy, and make sure its plugged in every night. For what? An Instagram picture of our lunch? Checking out all the superfluous activities your friends claim to do on Facebook? To play some solitaire? Whatever your cellphone vice is, its probably not using it as a phone.

EXERCISE 14: PIDGIN SIGNS
“Create a series of pages (files) linked to your homepage that provide a ‘grammar’ introducing visitors to the ‘pidgin’ writing you are using to compose your widesite.”

Looks like we have a few definitions to clear up.... heres some terminology on my page that not everyone might be familiar with:

Farady Cage: A Faraday cage or Faraday shield is an enclosure formed by conducting material or by a mesh of such material.

Grounded: Plugged into the small round hole of the US electrical outlet.... make sure this is properly grounded before you plug anything into it.

This list was much shorter than I thought... I'll have to come back here and update it as I have more blog posts.
